Let's try this again...

Yet again, my attempt to resume blogging as I once did as a teen ended in an epic fail. But let's try it again, shall we?

My husband and I recently learned that we are expecting our third child. We are joking that this is our "oops" baby, but as with our other two children there really was no "oops" about it. I am ten weeks as of Monday and due November 20th. I joked with the husband that I am absolved of all birthday gifts, as his birthday falls just two days after my due date. Thanksgiving is just four days after--let's hope that I'm not doing my forty-eight hours on that day! We are very excited, despite the looks we receive when people see our nine month old daughter sitting in a shopping cart and we tell them we will have another within just under eight months. Learning that we would be having another baby made me want to resume blogging so that I can track things like doctor's appointments, ultrasounds, etc. I meant to do this with my other two pregnancies, and I regret not doing so.

In other news, Jesse has a full-time job at a warehouse making nearly $11.00 an hour and we are in the process of remodelling a house in my hometown. When it's finished, we will have a place to live that doesn't require much rent ($50.00 a month on contract sale) and is fully electric. Everything will be new, so I won't have to worry about yucky stains on the carpet or what may have been in the cabinets before we moved in. For now we are staying with my parents, but it is very, very close to being move-in ready. Jacobi is extremely excited. When we move, we plan on getting rid of pull-ups and diapers for him entirely.

He has made great progress with potty training over the past few months. He can stay dry for days at a time. We haven't convinced him to go #2 consistently yet, but we are sure once we move and don't have to worry about him making a mess in my mom's house that we will be able to get him to do it. He is scheduled to start preschool this fall and he is very excited about that. He knows all of the basic shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, diamond, heart, and oval) and is learning his colors. He can identify letters if he is shown a picture of the letter he is looking for.

Ember is also doing well. Her subdermal hemangiomas are still there, but after an echocardiogram of her heart the doctor is not worried that there are any underlying conditions that could be threatening to her health. They are getting much smaller as she gets bigger, so we are hopeful that they will go away on their own.

I'm endlessly working on my homework. I'm studying to teach early childhood education, and I'm about halfway done with my degree. My semester ends May 23rd and I am pretty far behind, so fingers crossed that I can pull off getting it all done in time. I've also been mushroom hunting TONS, and I've found about 16 mushrooms all together. I haven't been anywhere but my backyard, so I feel like it's been a pretty good haul so far.

Hopefully my next post will have more sustanance than just a general update on my life, but I felt it was necessary since I'd been away so long. I hope that everyone (if anyone) who reads this is staying dry and safe in all this wet and crazy weather!

Colorful Creations--Great Christmas gifts!

A few weeks ago I received a set of snowman crayons from Colorful Creations.  They arrived packaged in a clear tube with tissue paper to keep them from breaking. It was nice to receive something in packaging other than a box!

The set came with 5 marbled crayons (red, green, blue, orange, and purple). I had never used handmade crayons before, and I had always been a little bit weary of them being fragile. I was very surprised to find that these crayons were pretty much Jacobi-proof! They color nicely and the snowman shape made coloring with my son even more fun.

Colorful Creations makes all kinds of shapes for crayons. They have a great line of Holiday Shapes that include snowflakes, Christmas trees, snowmen, and Gingerbread men! Colorful Creations also offers special Holiday packaging with their crayons. This is a great gift idea for loved ones who live far away!

We had lots of fun with this product and plan to have lots more. They are all still 100% in tact and we have colored with them every day since they arrived. I would recommend this product for anyone who loves to color!

Kool Smiles

Jacobi turned two in September. I had always been unsure about the proper dentist date for kids because my sister had been told by our old dentist not to do it until they were three, but my doctor said to do it at one. After Googling and speaking to his new pediatrician I decided it was time and made him an appointment at Kool Smiles.

The week of his original appointment in September my car broke down, so he missed it. I didn't get around to making another one until just recently. I made sure that there was a babysitter for Ember. I figured the dentist was something I would REALLY need Jesse for. I don't think I've ever been more wrong.

I didn't expect a play area with a slide to be there to entertain Jacobi. I also didn't expect there to be "portholes" where you could see the other kids having their teeth worked on. Jack was having so much fun playing that he went straight back when the nurse called his name, fully trusting the new surroundings.

I wasn't able to go back with him because only one parent is allowed (this was a major bummer and was my only real complaint against Kool Smiles). We decided that he would behave better with Jesse, and if not he could just come get me so I waited and watched the other kids having a blast on the slide.

Just when I was beginning to worry about Jacobi he came running out the door with an enormous grin on his face and a bag full of tooth brushing goodies. I found out that Jack had climbed up in the dentist chair, 100% ready to go with whatever was going to happen. I can only assume from the following pictures and the wonderful reports from dad that the experience was a good one.

Ready to go! Such a brave little boy!
Cavity free!
This is my favorite! He is being so good despite the mean look on his face!
Brushing teeth!

First Post

Jack & Ember, just after she was born
This is my first post here! I hope that I will be able to keep up with this. It seems like every time I start one I end up leaving it behind to do something else.

I guess I should write about who I am. My name is Allison. I am 22 years old and married to the boy I met when I was only fourteen years old, so that is fun. We have a two year old son named Jacobi (Jack). This blog will mostly be about him, as he is very silly and entertaining most of the time. Jack's little sister Ember was born in July of this year. We have a catahoula named Molly. She has been a member of the family as long as Jack has.

The biggest quirk in our family is that we have moved over five times in the past three years. I don't know why this happens, it just does. Something always happens in the houses where we are living that causes us to move, like the ceiling falling in or the landlord selling the house. We are living in Terre Haute now in an apartment, so hopefully that helps keep us tethered to one spot for a little bit while we sort things out!

We dig ginseng, sell computers, and hang out on eBay. We also do normal kid things like go to the park and crafts. I plan on posting links soon to sites where I buy stuff for the kids, too. Kind of like reviews only not so formal. :)
